As we all have known, we are now living in the fast-paced era where previously complicated tasks can now be done by simple clicks on the mouse. Paying bills, filling out forms, sending files or messages and a number of other things. How sophisticated the technology nowadays we may say and yes it is truly indeed. In other words, we are living in this high-tech world where it is populated by knowledge workers.
Things have changed since 20 years ago, with better speed and efficiency, now the knowledge workers can even produce goods/services twice times better than they did in the past and all of this with the help of computers as the result of improved technology.
The importance of this matter is also highlighted on His Majesty’s Titah ( Based on Borneo Bulletin dated 11th November 2007 by Azaraimy HH), “ The migration towards a knowledge-based society is becoming more relevant because of the new opportunities presented in the many community affairs and activities.” With that, we should now be prepared to step ahead in the same level as other developed nations in ICT field. If we are able to achieve this goal then we might also at the same time helping to provide more employment opportunities in technology sector, which is already an important aspect towards nation-building.

With the advent of computers, we no longer use typewriters as much as we did years ago. I must say that this really benefits us all even though there might be minimal drawbacks.
First and foremost, in terms of speed and ease, it is definitely a plus-point as we can now produce our materials with such a better standard. Errors can also be easily detected and corrected. Basically the word processing tools are a great help too. For example, Word count helps us to keep track of how many words that we have typed in the Microsoft Word. The copy and paste functions also enable us to make copies of our documents in which this helps us to save time without having to re-do the document one by one. Actually there are other more useful functions in word processing.
In short, the use of word processing definitely meets the requirements of tech-savvy people.

Science is certainly a very fascinating subject to learn as it arouses children’s curiousity about the nature and whatever happens in our every day life. For instance, it helps the children to understand better about their own sense organs, living and non-living things, energy, electricity and so on.
In addition to that, nowadays, children can learn Science in a more interactive way as the usage of ICT is highly encouraged. Moreover, learning Science is also very beneficial as it has been linked with other subjects such as Geography, Mathematics, English and Pelajaran Am. This will certainly help the children in so many ways as they get to learn many things at a time.
In conclusion, we as teachers, should try to make learning Science as an enjoyable experience and the one that the children will remember for a life time because we must be aware that learning Science is an on-going process and it will continue even when these children have step out of the primary school. Therefore, it is definitely a wise move to help these children to understand the importance of Science.

Here, I have some information about computer. Mainly about the RAM, Hard drive and so forth. I have quote a bit form the article:
“This is the first article in the Understanding Your Computer series from aworldofhelp.com. Our goal is to help people understand how their computer works, not simply tell them what they need to buy or use. When you know how your computer works, buying the right system or upgrade is easy. The series is designed to provide valuable information to users of all knowledge levels, so if part of it seems too complicated or too simple for you, I hope you read on and get all you can out of the articles”

In this era of technology, even the Primary schoolers also should be exposed to this technology thing like internet discussion and forum and blogging. Because one of our assignments for ICT for Mathematics and Science Learning required us to teach one Primary child to create a blog, so I made a trial-and-error teaching my 12 year old cousin who is in Primary 5 in one of the private schools in Brunei to create a blog. The session took place on Saturday, 9th February 2008 at around 9-ish p.m.
Firstly, I explained him what blog is all about and what are its benefits. Then I showed him my blog (also in WordPress) as an example. Because he didn’t have an e-mail account, so I taught him how to create an e-mail account before signing up at WordPress.com. After showing him how to make an e-mail account at Hotmail.com (I had him to choose either Hotmail or Yahoo), he managed to create a Hotmail account.
Then, I taught him how to sign up at WordPress and after he did that, I taught him how to write a post in the blog. He did this very well, indeed.. He managed to post two posts (eh?) that very night including one post with uploaded image (it was Undertaker though, *sweats!*). However, because it was already so late in addition to the ‘tortoisey’ connection, I haven’t got the chance to teach him how to blogroll and some other stuffs but I sure will come back to him next time and teach him more of this.
I didn’t snapshot the events so I got nothing to show but his blog at khairulanwari.wordpress.com.
I personally think that it could be a good idea to introduce the Primary children to this blogging stuffs but ofcourse under adult supervision (yeap, we sure know the disadvantages of the internet -e.g. those unpleasant websites) but to think that some of the children have not got enough exposure to the internet, so, it could be hard to get them to this blogging thingy. As for my cousin, he is so much into computer stuffs especially PC games and using the search engines at Yahoo and Google, so I did not have much problem dealing with him.
Anyways, this is just to share my experience. Hee hee~

How are we going to teach mathematics using ICT?
Always start from mathematics learning objectives then decide whether ICT can support the teaching and learning. This will depend on what mathematics you want children to learn and whether ICT is the best resource to support your teaching and their learning. Does ICT enable them to learn more effectively than by using other means? You will also need to consider at what stage in the lesson the ICT should be used and by whom. Could it, for example, help you to manage differentiation? You could use it as an interactive teaching aid with the whole class or a group of children, or children could use it, either as a group, a pair or as individuals. If children are to use ICT to support a mathematical activity, you will need to determine whether they all need to use it or whether the activity is only appropriate for a few. Some software allows you to vary the level of difficulty of the task, so you may decide, for example, that several groups or all children will undertake the task but at different levels to suit their needs. These important decisions must be made when you are planning your lesson and will have to take into account the availability of ICT resources.

I’m sure most of you know how we teachers-to-be will eventually come to that stage in life where most of our work concentrates on grading, marking, adding the total scores of our students, finding the average scores of the class, the average scores of the school and to see the statistics of he grades, whether it is falling or rising. But of course these things are not the highlights of our future careers right. Yes, some might go to the troubles of listing them scores down, then calculate it manually using a calculator or using the computer to do it for you one by one but with the use of Microsoft Excel you can save much time and carry on with your other work. Because using this method save you time and gets your job done faster.
Say you want to calculate the average scores of your students in your class (figure 1)
To find the average scores they get for each subject all you have to do is:
on the subjects columns, on the row that reads average type in =AVG( (highlight the row that you want to find the average) ) then press enter . figure below shows the example.

after pressing enter, the average of the numbers will then appear. To find average, you can also use another method and not entering what was instructed earlier, by doing the following.
1-press the function button as shown

2-you will find this box to appear, just select average and press ok

3- make sure you click on the columns of the subjects you want to find the average before clicking the f button.

with these functions, not only you can use to find the average of numbers but you can also use to find the sum, statistics and etc. All you have to do is choose the term you want to look for just after clicking the f button
I hope this brief explanation has help you understand how you can use more with excels and not just mere tables and rows in when using Microsoft excels.

There are still some teachers think that teaching Maths is really a burdens and at the same time some children said it is a boring subject. Well, those teachers and children should come out from their cocoons and opens their eyes for technology. The invention of computers is like the founding of cure for cancer. It makes people life much more easier and sophisticated while for those who set their heart for technology, computers are like their soul mates in which they cannot live without. For teachers, they should varies their teaching strategies. Teachers should not be afraid of using ICT in their lessons. Lets take a lesson on shapes. Teachers can integrate ICT in such lesson by using PC LOGO. I’m sure many people know about the program but let me share briefly about it.
It is a program that can be used to design by typing command and the little turtle will draw according to the command given. We can draw anything with different sizes as long as we type the command correctly. Some of the commands are:
-
FD :Forward
-
RT : Right turn
-
LT: Left turn
-
BK: Back
-
PU: Pen Up
-
PD: Pen down
Teachers need to tell the children the commands and should show them how to use the program. Then teachers should allow the children to try themselves and let them play around with it. After that, teachers can use the program to teach about area using it to make the lesson more interesting and challenging. However, there will be some drawback as the children to be very familiar with the commands. So check it out and try it.

“The information society presents a challenge for today‘s public education system; in changing our everyday lives, information technology also provides new opportunities for learning. Old pedagogical tools and methodology are becoming increasingly less effective and are no longer suitable on their own for knowledge acquisition. Due to information and communication technology (ICT), it is not only the knowledge itself that is changing at a rapid pace, but also the way in which we get access to information.”
I’ve quote this from one of the websites that i also think it is useful to be share; it is an e-article which help the children cope with the use of ict.
please check it out, you will not regret it:
